Becoming a DiasporaBuild Inspector — a profession reinvented

Inspectors — frequently asked questions

Who can become a DiasporaBuild inspector?
Civil engineers, senior building technicians, junior architects, quantity surveyors. Minimum 2-year post-secondary diploma + 3 years of field experience.
Is it a salaried job or a freelance assignment?
Freelance / service provision. You set your daily rate (indicatively 35,000 to 80,000 FCFA/day depending on experience and country). During the launch phase, the platform commission is 0%.
How many assignments per month can I expect?
It depends on local demand and your availability. Indicatively, an active inspector in a major city (Yaoundé, Douala, Abidjan, Dakar) can aim for 15 to 25 visits/month. Assignment volume grows with the community.
What equipment do I need?
AR-compatible Android smartphone (recent models suffice), hi-vis vest, helmet, laser measure, moisture meter, spirit level. The report is filled in the DiasporaBuild mobile app.
Am I liable for defects discovered after my visit?
No — you are a technical witness, not a guarantor. Your responsibility is limited to the accuracy of your observations. Professional liability insurance (€60/year) is still recommended.
How does DiasporaBuild rate inspectors?
5-star client rating, report completeness rate (photos, sections filled), delivery speed (<24h after visit). The best appear at the top of the inspection marketplace.

Going further

The diaspora site-inspector profession was born from the digitalisation of construction quality control in Africa. Where a resident project owner physically visits every week, the diaspora now relies on a network of independent inspectors equipped with smartphones and mobile apps to produce standardised reports, geolocated photos and short videos. DiasporaBuild provides the standardised report template and connects inspectors with diaspora project owners across the 10 documented markets. A senior inspector in Abidjan or Douala can build a sustainable activity, with freelance flexibility and without the overheads of a full practice.
