RC staircase

RC staircase

Inclined slab (waist) on which the steps are cast. The waist works as a bending slab between its two supports: its main bars run along the slope, on the lower face.

Typical dimensions & rules
  • Waist: 12-15 cm thick
  • Comfort: 2r + g ≈ 60-64 cm (riser 16-18, going 26-30)
  • Main bars along the slope + transverse distribution
  • Anchored into landings and starting beam
Common mistakes to avoid
  • Main bars laid horizontally instead of along the slope
  • Unequal riser heights (danger + visible defect)
  • Waist cast without connection to landings
